About Us / FAQ's
Bob Zweig has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since April 10th, 1990.  Having a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University, he has spent his whole career in the travel industry including major airlines, hotels and cruise lines.  Bob currently lives in South Florida with his family and has been successfully organizing sobriety cruises since 1994.  You can call Bob directly, toll free at 1-866-9-GO-2-SEA (866-946-2732) or e-mail him at Bob@cruiseland.com.

What does my fare include?
The price of your cruise includes all Sobriety at Sea functions, accommodations, ocean transportation, most meals, some beverages and most entertainment.  To really answer this question, it would be easier to tell you what your fare does not include.  Your fare does not include soda (although all the coffee, iced tea, hot tea and fruit juice is included), shore excursions, gift shop items or items of a personal nature, telephone calls, photographs, gratuities and medical expenses.  As it is impossible to list every possible exclusion, please feel free to call Bob if there is something not listed that may be of concern to you.

How do I get to the ship?

Air transportation is available for purchase through the cruise line.  In many cases, you might be able to secure airfare at a lesser price on your own.  If you call us, we will be happy to answer any questions regarding air transportation to and from Miami Florida.  Transfer information to and from the airport will be mailed to you approximately one month before the cruise.

Will I need a passport?
For United States citizens, proof of citizenship is required for all passengers traveling outside of the United States.  The U.S. Customs and Border Protection act states that U.S. citizens traveling on a cruise ship may use either a valid passport or an original birth certificate with a state or federally issued picture i.d. such as a drivers license.  We are requesting that all passengers have in their possession, a valid passport for this cruise.  Please visit the Department of State website for more information.  If you are not a United States citizen, please call Bob.
Will the whole ship be recovering alcoholics?
No.  We will be a group of recovering alcoholics, family and friends among other passengers on board.

How do I pay for my cruise and can I pay it off over time?

Royal Caribbean International accepts most major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express , Optima and Discover.  All credit cards are charged directly to the cruise line.  If you prefer, you may pay by personal check, cashiers check or money order.  Please call Bob for details on paying by check.

The minimum deposit is $250 per person due at time of booking.  After that, you can make payments in any increments at any time so long as the final payment is made by July 15, 2010.  All payments are fully refundable until this date with the exception of insurance.

What if I do not have a roomate?

Sobriety at Sea is not offering a share program for those wishing to be matched with another person.  We will, however, keep your name on file and, with your authorization, will give out your telephone number to those inquiring about the same.

Single fares are available.  Please call for details.

Are family & friends welcome to come?

Absolutely!  There is no reason why we cannot share our joy and our fun in recovery with those we hurt the most while we were "in disease."  Please encourage all family and friends to attend.

We do request that while at the dinner table, family and friends refrain from drinking alcohol at the table.

When are the meetings scheduled and will there be any Al-Anon meetings scheduled?

Meeting times will vary by day depending on whether the ship is at sea or in port.  Meeting times are scheduled to allow each person to get the most out of their day.  For example, if the ship is at sea all day, the meeting will be in the morning to allow you to experience all the activities that the cruise line provides.  When the ship is in port all day, we usually schedule the meeting in the late afternoon after the ship has pulled out of port.  Coffee service and a light snack is provided at each meeting with the first half hour for fellowship and the last hour as a speaker/discussion meeting.

Al-Anon meeting space will be provided should enough people request this.  Approximately two months prior to the cruise date, a questionnaire will be made available both on line and sent via regular mail.  On this questionnaire, we will inquire as to the number of Al-Anon members traveling and ask if you would like to have your own meeting space.
